Heraldry is a fascinating topic, encompassing genealogy, art, the law, and a complex set of conventions that govern its usage, application and design.

A set of heraldic arms can give a vivid picture of the development of a genealogical line down the centuries. But it can also give us other messages, about the social and political ties and allegiances of the family represented.
