What can you expect from me?

I appreciate that you might feel a little apprehensive about putting your genealogy research in someone else’s hands. You need to be comfortable with the person who is doing this work for you, and you need to know that you can trust them.

If you decide to hire me to do your research, this is what you can expect from me:

  • I work with commitment, enthusiasm and the utmost integrity
  • I am meticulous in my research and referencing
  • I am an experienced writer, and any written materials you receive from me will be of a high standard
  • Throughout your project, I will provide regular progress reports, as well as keeping you up to date on any obstacles I have encountered with your research
  • I am a full member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists, and I abide by the high standards set out in its Professional Code

Family history research can sometimes reveal facts and details that can be uncomfortable or upsetting for family members. I will always treat any such instances with care and respect, and communicate them with great sensitivity and professionalism.

What I can’t promise

Sometimes it may not be possible for me to locate every ancestor you would like to trace, or to provide the amount of detail you would have hoped for. This could be for a number of reasons: perhaps a birth was never actually registered in the parish records, or a crucial record has been lost or destroyed.

In such instances, I will always try every avenue available to me, in an attempt to enlarge on your ancestor’s story. Crucially, in the case of negative searches, I will always give you a full account of my methodology, the searches I have conducted, and the record sets I have consulted.
